What is .NET and why use it for a UAE business system?

Modern .NET is Microsoft's cross-platform runtime for APIs, web applications, and background services, and unlike the old .NET Framework it runs on Linux containers. For UAE teams that already have C# people or a Microsoft-centric estate, it is usually the cheapest path to a fast, statically typed backend with a mature standard library. We deploy it on AWS me-central-1 (UAE) where residency matters.

Should we modernize our .NET Framework application or rewrite it?

Accepted Answer

Modernize, in almost every case. Rewrites fail more often than teams expect because the old system encodes years of undocumented business rules nobody can fully restate. Our default is incremental: put a facade in front, move one slice at a time onto a supported .NET release, and keep the application shipping throughout. We recommend a full rewrite only when the code is genuinely beyond salvage, and we will say so plainly if that is what the audit finds.

Should a new backend be .NET, Python, or Node?

.NET is the strongest fit when you already have C# engineers, when you are integrated with the Microsoft estate, or when you want a fast statically typed runtime. Python wins when the work is data-heavy or AI-heavy, because that ecosystem lives there. Node wins when one JavaScript codebase across frontend and backend matters most. We build in all three, so the recommendation follows your team and your integrations rather than our preference.

Can you get us off an unsupported .NET version?

Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons UAE clients call us. Running on a release that no longer receives security patches usually surfaces first in a customer security questionnaire or an audit finding. The work is typically dependency remediation, replacing APIs that were dropped, and dealing with anything tied to Windows-only behaviour. We sequence it so the riskiest dependency is proven early rather than discovered near the deadline.

Blazor or React for the front end?

Blazor is a genuine option when your team is .NET end to end and you would rather not maintain a separate JavaScript stack. React or Next.js is safer when you need the component ecosystem, or when you want to hire frontend engineers from the largest available pool. The honest tiebreaker is usually who will maintain it in two years rather than which is technically nicer, and for most UAE teams that points at React.

Where will our data live, and do we have to use Azure?

You do not have to use Azure. Modern .NET is cross-platform and runs well in Linux containers on AWS, which is where a lot of our infrastructure work already sits, and for UAE clients that usually means AWS me-central-1 (UAE). Azure is often smoother if you are already invested in Microsoft identity and tooling. We will lay out the cost and residency implications of each rather than assuming .NET means Azure.

How do you handle UAE PDPL, free-zone regimes, and Arabic support?

We build to the UAE PDPL (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021), overseen by the UAE Data Office, and to the separate DIFC and ADGM regimes if you are incorporated in a free zone, because those are distinct laws rather than a subset of the federal one. Which applies to you depends on where the entity sits, so we settle that in discovery. We host in AWS me-central-1 for in-country residency, with the honest caveat that residency is not compliance on its own. We also build Arabic and English interfaces with genuine right-to-left layout, not a mirrored stylesheet bolted on at the end.

What drives the cost of a .NET modernization?

Mostly scope: how many external integrations exist, how much logic sits in stored procedures or Web Forms code-behind, whether there is any existing test coverage, and how much of the codebase depends on Windows-only APIs.
