Should we use Next.js or plain React?

Use Next.js when pages need to be indexed, shared, or loaded fast on a first visit: marketing sites, commerce, dashboards with public surfaces, anything where SEO matters. Stay on plain React with Vite when the product sits entirely behind a login and nothing needs to be crawled, because then server rendering adds infrastructure and cost for no benefit. We will tell you which case you are in during discovery rather than defaulting to the bigger framework.

When is SvelteKit the better choice than Next.js?

SvelteKit produces smaller bundles and is genuinely simpler to reason about, so it wins on content-heavy sites and on teams that value a small codebase. Next.js wins when you need the React ecosystem: a specific component library, a large existing React codebase, or the ability to hire quickly. We build in both and have no incentive to push one, so the honest answer usually comes down to hiring and existing code rather than benchmarks.

Can you migrate our Pages Router app to the App Router?

Yes, and the two routers can run side by side, so this does not have to be a big-bang rewrite. We typically move one route group at a time, starting with something low-traffic to establish the patterns, then work through the rest while feature delivery continues. The risky parts are usually data fetching and auth, so we sequence those deliberately rather than last.

Do we have to host on Vercel?

No. Vercel is the smoothest path and we use it often, but Next.js self-hosts on Node or in Docker, which is what we do when data residency rules, an existing AWS commitment, or cost at scale point that way. We will lay out what you actually give up self-hosting, mostly some edge and image-optimisation convenience, so the decision is made on facts.

How do you handle Core Web Vitals?

We measure before changing anything, because most Next.js performance problems are payload and data-waterfall issues rather than framework issues. Typical work is trimming client bundles, moving work to server components, fixing image and font loading, and removing render-blocking third-party scripts. We then put budgets in CI so a future pull request cannot quietly undo it.

Can you work with our existing React team?

Yes. A common engagement is that we set the architecture, establish the App Router patterns, and do the first few features alongside your engineers, then hand over. We write the code review notes and documentation as we go specifically so the handover is real rather than a slide deck at the end.

What drives the cost of a Next.js project?

Mostly the number of distinct page templates, how many external systems the app has to integrate with, how much of the data is genuinely dynamic, and whether an existing codebase has to be migrated rather than replaced. Auth, roles, and multi-tenancy add more than teams expect. We scope a discovery sprint first and give a fixed estimate off the back of it, rather than quoting from a feature list.
