.NET Development Services for UK Teams
.NET is a full-stack web framework that compiles to lean JavaScript: small bundles, fast page loads, and strong Core Web Vitals, which is a direct SEO advantage. MicroPyramid is a 12-year-old senior-led engineering team that builds fast, SEO-ready .NET web apps for UK startups and SMBs: dashboards, customer portals, SaaS features, and marketing sites. We also build in React, so we will tell you honestly which framework fits your roadmap.
Why UK Teams Choose Us for .NET
Four reasons UK founders and product teams pick MicroPyramid over a local agency or a generic offshore shop
Standups During UK Hours
We keep ~4.5h of daily overlap with UK working hours, so your team gets live standups, same-day decisions, and pull-request reviews inside your own day rather than overnight.
UK GDPR and Accessibility Aware
We build with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 in mind, regulated by the ICO, and to WCAG 2.2 and the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations. AWS eu-west-2 (London) hosting keeps data in region.
GBP Billing via Stripe or GoCardless Direct Debit
Invoices in GBP, collected via Stripe or GoCardless Direct Debit. No currency-conversion friction and no wire-transfer delays, billing that your finance team can process without a special case.
Senior Ownership, Not a Ticket Mill
Senior engineers own every engagement directly. You will not be handed to a layer of junior developers. The senior engineer who scopes your .NET work in discovery is the one who builds it.

Why Modern .NET for UK Systems
Modern .NET runs cross-platform in Linux containers and is fast enough for serious UK workloads, without tying your hosting to Windows licensing
Off Unsupported Runtimes
Running a .NET version that no longer receives security fixes tends to surface first in a customer security questionnaire or an audit, and it gets harder to escape every year you wait.
Cheaper To Run
Modern .NET on Linux containers takes Windows licensing out of the hosting bill and starts fast enough to scale down when idle, which changes the economics of a long-running estate.
Easier To Staff
Engineers who will happily work on current .NET are far easier to hire in United Kingdom than engineers willing to maintain Web Forms for another five years.
Able To Change Again
The point of modernization is not the version number. It is that the next feature stops taking three months and a change-freeze.
Best Fit For
- UK teams running business-critical .NET applications that have drifted onto an unsupported runtime
- organisations with a Microsoft-centric estate who want cross-platform hosting without abandoning C#
- products carrying WCF, SOAP, or Web Forms that block every other change in the roadmap
- teams who need a senior partner to own the migration while their own engineers keep shipping features
Not the Right Fit When
- greenfield products with no existing .NET investment and no C# team, where Python or Node is usually the better call
- engagements wanting staff augmentation without delivery ownership
- desktop-only WinForms or WPF applications with no web or service surface
- teams looking for a lift-and-shift to new hosting with no code change at all

How a UK .NET Engagement Starts
Every engagement starts by clarifying the real performance, SEO, or product goal, scope and context before any code
Audit and Plan
We map dependencies, find what actually blocks the upgrade, and produce a sequenced plan with the risky parts named rather than discovered later.
Migrate Incrementally
Slice by slice behind a facade, so the application keeps shipping instead of disappearing into a rewrite for two quarters.
Test and Harden
Characterisation tests around legacy behaviour first, then automated coverage and load testing before any cutover.
Cut Over and Support
Staged rollout on AWS eu-west-2 (London) with a rollback path, monitoring in place, and ongoing maintenance afterwards.

A scoped audit of what blocks your upgrade, with a sequenced plan and a fixed written estimate. Invoiced in GBP, and the plan is yours regardless of who does the work.
- Dependency and blocker analysis
- Sequenced migration plan
- Risk and rollback assessment
- Hosting and residency options
.NET Build Sprint
Ship a focused ASP.NET Core service or application slice on foundations genuinely worth building on.
- Launchable service or slice
- Tests and CI from day one

Straight answers to what UK CTOs and engineering leads ask before starting .NET work: modernize or rewrite, runtime support, hosting, and ownership
What is .NET and why use it for a UK business system?
Modern .NET is Microsoft's cross-platform runtime for APIs, web applications, and background services, and unlike the old .NET Framework it runs on Linux containers. For UK teams that already have C# people or a Microsoft-centric estate, it is usually the cheapest path to a fast, statically typed backend with a mature standard library. We deploy it on AWS eu-west-2 (London) where residency matters.
Should we modernize our .NET Framework application or rewrite it?
Modernize, in almost every case. Rewrites fail more often than teams expect because the old system encodes years of undocumented business rules nobody can fully restate. Our default is incremental: put a facade in front, move one slice at a time onto a supported .NET release, and keep the application shipping throughout. We recommend a full rewrite only when the code is genuinely beyond salvage, and we will say so plainly if that is what the audit finds.
Should a new backend be .NET, Python, or Node?
.NET is the strongest fit when you already have C# engineers, when you are integrated with the Microsoft estate, or when you want a fast statically typed runtime. Python wins when the work is data-heavy or AI-heavy, because that ecosystem lives there. Node wins when one JavaScript codebase across frontend and backend matters most. We build in all three, so the recommendation follows your team and your integrations rather than our preference.
Can you get us off an unsupported .NET version?
Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons UK clients call us. Running on a release that no longer receives security patches usually surfaces first in a customer security questionnaire or an audit finding. The work is typically dependency remediation, replacing APIs that were dropped, and dealing with anything tied to Windows-only behaviour. We sequence it so the riskiest dependency is proven early rather than discovered near the deadline.
Blazor or React for the front end?
Blazor is a genuine option when your team is .NET end to end and you would rather not maintain a separate JavaScript stack. React or Next.js is safer when you need the component ecosystem, or when you want to hire frontend engineers from the largest available pool. The honest tiebreaker is usually who will maintain it in two years rather than which is technically nicer, and for most UK teams that points at React.
Where will our data live, and do we have to use Azure?
You do not have to use Azure. Modern .NET is cross-platform and runs well in Linux containers on AWS, which is where a lot of our infrastructure work already sits, and for UK clients that usually means AWS eu-west-2 (London). Azure is often smoother if you are already invested in Microsoft identity and tooling. We will lay out the cost and residency implications of each rather than assuming .NET means Azure.
How do you handle UK GDPR and accessibility obligations?
We build to the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, with the ICO as regulator, and to WCAG 2.2 for accessibility. In practice that means data-minimising the schema, keeping an audit trail on personal data access, and testing with keyboard and screen readers rather than only an automated scanner. One honest caveat: hosting in AWS eu-west-2 (London) helps with residency questions but it is not compliance on its own. You still need a lawful basis, working subject-access and deletion paths, and a transfer assessment for anything leaving the UK.
What drives the cost of a .NET modernization?
Mostly scope: how many external integrations exist, how much logic sits in stored procedures or Web Forms code-behind, whether there is any existing test coverage, and how much of the codebase depends on Windows-only APIs. Authentication, roles, and reporting reliably take longer than teams estimate. We run a paid discovery sprint first and give a fixed written estimate off the back of it, invoiced in GBP via Stripe or GoCardless. We do not quote from a feature list before we have seen the code.
