Why UK Teams Choose Us for Next.js

Four reasons UK founders and product teams pick MicroPyramid over a local agency or a generic offshore shop

Standups During UK Hours

We keep ~4.5h of daily overlap with UK working hours, so your team gets live standups, same-day decisions, and pull-request reviews inside your own day rather than overnight.

UK GDPR and Accessibility Aware

We build with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 in mind, regulated by the ICO, and to WCAG 2.2 and the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations. AWS eu-west-2 (London) hosting keeps data in region.

GBP Billing via Stripe or GoCardless Direct Debit

Invoices in GBP, collected via Stripe or GoCardless Direct Debit. No currency-conversion friction and no wire-transfer delays, billing that your finance team can process without a special case.

Senior Ownership, Not a Ticket Mill

Senior engineers own every engagement directly. You will not be handed to a layer of junior developers. The senior engineer who scopes your Next.js work in discovery is the one who builds it.

Deployment on AWS eu-west-2 (London)

Ship on Vercel when the workflow earns its keep, or self-host on AWS eu-west-2 (London) when residency, cost, or procurement policy points that way.

  • Vercel or self-hosted AWS
  • Docker and Node runtime
  • Preview environments and CI/CD

Why Next.js for UK Web Apps

Next.js renders on the server and streams the result, a strong fit for UK products that compete on speed, accessibility, and search

Search Engines See Real Content

Server-rendered HTML and the metadata API give crawlers actual content instead of an empty div waiting on JavaScript, which is the whole reason most teams leave a single-page app.

Strong Core Web Vitals

Streaming and partial prerendering let useful content paint while slower data resolves, which is what actually moves LCP and INP for UK users.

One Codebase, Both Halves

Frontend and API live together, so shipping a feature is one pull request rather than a negotiation between two teams and two release trains.

A Hiring Pool You Can Draw From

React is the largest frontend talent pool there is, so handing this codebase to your own UK team later stays realistic rather than theoretical.

Best Fit For

  • UK SaaS, commerce, and content teams who need fast, indexable dashboards, storefronts, and customer-facing apps
  • products stuck on an aging Create React App or Pages Router codebase that has become expensive to change
  • teams who need server rendering for SEO but want to stay inside the React ecosystem they already hire for
  • products that need a senior partner to own Next.js delivery end to end, not just supply hands

Not the Right Fit When

  • mobile-first native apps with no meaningful web surface
  • engagements wanting staff augmentation without delivery ownership
  • products entirely behind a login where nothing needs indexing and plain React would be simpler
  • one-off brochure pages with no product or performance requirement

How a UK Next.js Engagement Starts

Every engagement starts by clarifying the real performance, SEO, or product goal, scope and context before any code

1

Clarify the Goal

We define the real performance, SEO, or product goal before writing code, because rendering strategy follows from it.

2

Choose the Rendering Strategy

We decide what is server-rendered, streamed, static, or client-only per route, since reversing this later is the expensive part.

3

Build on the App Router

We build with server components, route handlers, and typed data access, deployed to AWS eu-west-2 (London).

4

Ship, Measure, Improve

We ship to production, measure Core Web Vitals against real UK users, and hold the numbers with CI budgets.

How to Get Started as a UK Team

We recommend starting with a Build Discovery Sprint, settling the architecture and rendering strategy before a full build. All engagements billed in GBP.

Recommended Start

Build Discovery Sprint

Settle the architecture and rendering strategy before committing to a full Next.js build. Invoiced in GBP, and the output is yours regardless of what you do next.

  • Rendering and architecture plan
  • Performance and SEO scoping
  • Delivery roadmap
  • Frontend and backend planning

Next.js Development FAQs for UK Teams

Straight answers to what UK founders and CTOs ask before committing to Next.js: framework choice, migration, Core Web Vitals, hosting, and ownership

What is Next.js and why use it for a UK web app?

Next.js is a React framework that renders pages on the server, so search engines and social previews get real HTML instead of an empty shell. For UK teams that matters most on anything publicly discoverable: marketing sites, commerce, documentation, and the logged-out surfaces of a SaaS product. You also get one codebase covering the frontend and its API, which removes a whole category of coordination overhead. We deploy it on AWS eu-west-2 (London) where residency matters.

Should we use Next.js or plain React?

Use Next.js when pages need to be indexed, shared, or fast on a first visit. Stay on plain React with Vite when the product sits entirely behind a login and nothing needs crawling, because then server rendering adds infrastructure and operational cost for no return. We will tell you which case you are actually in during discovery rather than defaulting to the larger framework, since we build and maintain both.

When is SvelteKit a better choice than Next.js?

SvelteKit ships smaller bundles and is genuinely simpler to reason about, so it wins on content-heavy sites and small teams who value a compact codebase. Next.js wins when you need the React ecosystem: a specific component library, a large existing React codebase, or the ability to hire quickly from a deep pool. We build in both and have no incentive to push either, so for most UK teams the honest tiebreaker is hiring and existing code rather than benchmarks.

Can you migrate our Pages Router or Create React App codebase?

Yes, and it does not have to be a big-bang rewrite. The Pages Router and App Router can run side by side, so we typically move one route group at a time, starting somewhere low-traffic to establish the patterns, then work through the rest while your feature delivery continues. Data fetching and authentication are the genuinely risky parts, so we sequence those deliberately and early rather than leaving them to the end.

How do you actually improve Core Web Vitals?

We measure before changing anything, because most Next.js performance problems turn out to be payload size and data waterfalls rather than framework issues. Typical work is trimming client bundles, moving work into server components, fixing image and font loading, and removing render-blocking third-party scripts. We then put performance budgets in CI so a future pull request cannot quietly undo the work, which is the part most engagements skip.

Do we have to host on Vercel, or can our data stay in United Kingdom?

You do not have to use Vercel. It is the smoothest path and we use it often, but Next.js self-hosts on Node or in Docker, which is what we do when data residency, an existing AWS commitment, or procurement policy points that way. For UK clients that usually means AWS eu-west-2 (London). We will lay out exactly what you give up self-hosting, mostly some edge and image-optimisation convenience, so the decision is made on facts rather than defaults.

How do you handle UK GDPR and accessibility obligations?

We build to the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, with the ICO as regulator, and to WCAG 2.2 for accessibility. In practice that means data-minimising the schema, keeping an audit trail on personal data access, and testing with keyboard and screen readers rather than only an automated scanner. One honest caveat: hosting in AWS eu-west-2 (London) helps with residency questions but it is not compliance on its own. You still need a lawful basis, working subject-access and deletion paths, and a transfer assessment for anything leaving the UK.

What drives the cost of a Next.js project?

Mostly scope: how many distinct screens, how many external systems you integrate with, and whether an existing codebase has to be migrated rather than replaced. Authentication, roles, and reporting reliably take longer than teams estimate. We run a paid discovery sprint first and give a fixed written estimate off the back of it, invoiced in GBP via Stripe or GoCardless. We do not quote from a feature list before we have seen the code.
