AWS Consulting Services for Canadian SaaS, Fintech, and Regulated Teams
AWS consulting is the work of architecting, migrating, securing, and cost-optimizing your workloads on Amazon Web Services. MicroPyramid is a 12-year-old senior-led team with AWS Consulting Partner experience that does exactly this for Canadian startups, SaaS, and SMBs — architecture, cost, and operations in one engagement, built around ca-central-1 (Canada Central) data residency, CAD cost reporting, and Eastern-time morning standups.
The Canadian cloud market is demanding: PIPEDA obligations overseen by the OPC, data residency expectations from enterprise and government buyers, and finance teams that want AWS spend explained in CAD. We have run production AWS workloads for fintech, healthtech, and SaaS teams, and understand what it takes to ship cloud infrastructure that Canadian customers, auditors, and investors will trust.
Why Canadian Teams Choose Us for AWS
Four reasons Canadian founders and engineering leads pick MicroPyramid over a local consultancy or a generic offshore team
Eastern-Time Standups, End-of-Day Handoffs
The overlap window in your Eastern-time morning is where decisions get made — we attend standups live, answer questions in real time, and hand off completed work at your end of day. Infrastructure changes get reviewed before your afternoon, not the next morning. It is the async cadence North American teams already know how to use well.
PIPEDA, OPC & Data Residency
We design to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the oversight role of the OPC. Account structure, encryption, and storage decisions are made with compliance in mind, with AWS ca-central-1 (Canada) available for Canadian data residency requirements.
AWS Costs Managed in CAD
We frame AWS spend in Canadian dollars and invoice in CAD, collected via Stripe. Cost reporting maps to budgets your finance team recognises — no currency-conversion guesswork on your cloud bill, no international wire fees.
Senior Ownership, Not a Ticket Mill
Founders and senior engineers directly own every engagement. You will not be passed to a delivery layer of junior developers. The person you talk to in the review is the person architecting and running your AWS estate.
AWS Consulting Services for Canadian Teams
Six services covering the full AWS lifecycle — from Well-Architected reviews and migration to cost optimization and managed operations
Cloud Architecture & Well-Architected Reviews
We design AWS architectures against the Well-Architected Framework — reliability, security, performance, cost, and operational excellence — for Canadian SaaS and fintech workloads. Built around ca-central-1 (Canada) where data residency matters.
- Reference architecture and account structure
- Well-Architected review and remediation
- Multi-AZ and high-availability design
Cloud Migration & Modernization
Move existing workloads onto AWS without disrupting paying Canadian customers. We use phased, low-risk migration patterns — replatform, refactor, or lift-and-shift — with rollback plans and zero-downtime cutover where feasible.
- Migration assessment and roadmap
- Phased, low-downtime cutover
- Containerisation and managed-service moves
AWS Cost Optimization in CAD
Bring AWS spend under control and frame it in CAD terms your finance team understands. We right-size, schedule, and commit (Savings Plans, Reserved Instances) so your monthly bill maps to predictable Canadian-dollar budgets.
- Right-sizing and idle-resource cleanup
- Savings Plans and Reserved Instance strategy
- Cost allocation tagging and CAD reporting
Cloud Security & PIPEDA Compliance
Security posture aligned to PIPEDA and the oversight role of the OPC. IAM least-privilege, encryption, logging, and guardrails for regulated Canadian fintech, healthtech, and public-sector environments.
- IAM, KMS encryption, and least-privilege
- GuardDuty, Security Hub, and audit logging
- Data residency in ca-central-1 (Canada)
DevOps, CI/CD & Infrastructure as Code
Repeatable, auditable infrastructure using Terraform and AWS-native tooling, with CI/CD pipelines that ship safely. We give Canadian teams the automation to deploy faster without sacrificing control.
- Terraform / CloudFormation IaC
- CI/CD pipelines and automated rollouts
- Environment parity and secrets management
Managed AWS & Ongoing Support
Ongoing monitoring, patching, and optimization so your AWS estate stays healthy. Senior engineers own the relationship with Eastern-time morning standups — not a faceless support queue.
- Proactive monitoring and alerting
- Patching, backups, and disaster recovery
- Monthly cost and posture reviews
Canadian Teams We Work Best With
If any of these situations match where your Canadian team is right now, we should talk
Canadian Startups Launching on AWS
You are building a product and need a sensible AWS foundation from day one — secure, cost-aware, and ready to scale — without hiring a full Toronto or Vancouver platform team.
Canadian SaaS Scaling Their Estate
Your SaaS has traction and your AWS bill and complexity are climbing. You need architecture, cost optimization, and reliability work without growing infrastructure headcount.
Canadian Fintech & Regulated Industries
You operate in fintech, healthtech, or a regulated sector where security, audit logging, and PIPEDA compliance are non-negotiable. You need an AWS partner who designs for the OPC, not against it.
Teams Migrating Onto AWS
You are moving off on-prem or another cloud and need a low-risk migration into ca-central-1 (Canada) that keeps existing Canadian customers running throughout.
Teams With a Runaway AWS Bill
Your AWS spend has grown faster than your revenue. You want a structured cost optimization pass — right-sizing, commitments, and CAD-mapped reporting your CFO can act on.
Teams Needing Reliable Cloud Ops
Your engineers are at capacity and infrastructure work keeps slipping. You need a senior external partner to own AWS operations with live overlap during Eastern-time hours.
Best Fit For
- Canadian fintech, healthtech, SaaS, and regulated teams running production workloads on AWS
- startups and SMBs that want a secure, cost-aware AWS foundation from the start
- migrations and modernizations where ca-central-1 data residency matters from day one
- teams that need a senior partner to own architecture and operations — not just advice
Not the Right Fit When
- one-off questions answerable by AWS documentation or a short support call
- engagements looking only for hands without architecture or delivery ownership
- workloads committed to another cloud with no intention of using AWS
- cost reviews where there is no willingness to act on the recommendations

How a Canadian AWS Engagement Works
Every engagement starts by understanding the real estate and workload — assessment and context before any change to your infrastructure
Assess the Current Estate
We review your existing infrastructure, workloads, and constraints against the Well-Architected Framework — context before any change.
Architect the Right Design
We design a secure, cost-aware AWS architecture scoped to your real workload and Canadian compliance needs — not the biggest possible build.
Migrate or Build Safely
We implement with infrastructure as code and phased, low-downtime cutover so existing Canadian customers stay running throughout.
Optimize & Operate
We tune cost, security, and reliability on an ongoing basis — the goal is an AWS estate your Canadian team can rely on, not just hand over.
In-House, a Local Consultancy, or a Senior Offshore Partner?
The real decision for a Canadian team is not which cloud, but how to get AWS work delivered. Here is how the three options compare — and where each one genuinely wins.
Build an In-House Cloud Team
Choose this when
- cloud is core to your product and you want it fully owned internally
- you have steady, large-scale platform work to justify senior hires
- you can wait months to recruit and retain cloud engineers in Toronto, Vancouver, or Montréal
- you can absorb the key-person risk if a platform lead leaves
Hire a Local Canadian Consultancy
Choose this when
- you need people physically on-site for enterprise or public-sector delivery
- your procurement requires a Canadian entity and standing-offer arrangements
- you have enterprise budgets and timelines for an account-managed engagement
- you accept that delivery is often handed to junior engineers under a lead
Work With a Senior Offshore Partner
Choose this when
- you want senior ownership without the cost and lead time of in-house hiring
- you need architecture, migration, cost, and operations from one accountable team
- Eastern-time overlap, CAD billing, and ca-central-1 (Canada Central) residency matter to you
- you want to own every account, IaC repo, and credential with no lock-in
Our take: if cloud is core to your product and you can fund a platform team, hire in-house. If you need on-site enterprise or public-sector delivery, a local consultancy fits. For most Canadian startups and SMBs, a senior offshore partner gives you the same ownership without the hiring cost or account-management overhead — and you keep every account, repo, and credential.

Straight answers to what Canadian founders and CTOs ask us before starting an AWS engagement.
What is AWS consulting, and what does an AWS consultant actually do?
AWS consulting is the work of architecting, migrating, securing, and cost-optimizing your applications on Amazon Web Services. In practice that means assessing your current estate against the Well-Architected Framework, designing a secure and scalable architecture, migrating workloads with minimal downtime, automating deployment with infrastructure as code and CI/CD, hardening security and compliance, and then continuously right-sizing so you only pay for what you use. We do this hands-on inside your own AWS account — not as a slide deck.
AWS vs Azure vs GCP — which cloud should a Canadian team choose?
We specialize in AWS and will still give you a straight answer. AWS has the broadest service catalogue and the largest market share, with the ca-central-1 (Canada Central, Montréal) and ca-west-1 (Canada West, Calgary) regions for Canadian data residency — usually the safest default for a Canadian product company. Azure is the pragmatic choice if you are already deep in Microsoft licensing or selling to government departments standardized on it. GCP can win for data-heavy and Kubernetes-native workloads. We recommend based on your stack, compliance needs, and roadmap — not on our certification. If another cloud genuinely wins for a narrow workload, we will tell you.
Where will our data live — is it PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25 compliant?
Your workloads run in your own AWS account, and we deploy to ca-central-1 (Canada Central, Montréal) — with ca-west-1 (Canada West, Calgary) available for redundancy — so Canadian customer data can stay onshore. We design to PIPEDA and the OPC accountability principle, and to Quebec Law 25, including the privacy-impact assessment Law 25 expects before any transfer of personal information outside Quebec. Honest caveat: AWS is a US-headquartered provider, so no public-cloud region is fully beyond the reach of the US CLOUD Act — but keeping data in ca-central-1, encrypting with keys you control, and minimizing what crosses the border is how Canadian teams meet residency expectations in practice. We document those decisions for your auditors and work bilingually in English and French where a Quebec engagement requires it.
Can you meet OSFI, fintech, and healthtech security requirements?
Yes. AWS provides the compliant infrastructure foundation, but in the shared-responsibility model how you configure it is what matters. We implement least-privilege IAM, KMS encryption, private networking, GuardDuty and Security Hub, and full audit logging, then align the architecture to your regime — OSFI B-13 technology and cyber-risk expectations for federally regulated financial institutions, PHIPA and provincial health-privacy controls for healthtech, and PCI-style controls for payments. We design for the auditor from the start rather than retrofitting later.
How do you stop our AWS bill from spiralling — and report it in CAD?
Runaway spend is the single biggest fear teams have, and it is justified — most overspend before they get serious about it. We apply FinOps discipline: right-sizing over-provisioned instances, moving steady workloads onto Savings Plans and Reserved Instances, killing idle resources, setting budgets and billing alerts, and using storage tiers for cold data. We frame and report it all in CAD so your finance team sees numbers that map to their budgets, and we start with a cost review so the savings often pay for the work — teams commonly see roughly 30% off an unoptimized bill.
What drives the cost of an AWS consulting engagement?
The main drivers are the size and complexity of your estate, how many workloads and integrations are in scope, your compliance and data-residency requirements, and whether we are migrating an existing system or building greenfield. Rather than an open hourly rate, we scope a fixed estimate after a Well-Architected Review so you know the shape of the work before committing. Engagements are billed in Canadian dollars (CAD) via Stripe.
How do you migrate onto AWS without downtime for our Canadian customers?
We use proven, low-risk patterns rather than a big-bang cutover — blue-green deployments, rolling updates, and database replication. The process is: assess and inventory the current environment, plan the migration in phases, replicate to a staging environment in ca-central-1 (Canada Central, Montréal), test thoroughly, switch traffic gradually behind health checks, and monitor continuously with the ability to roll back. Your paying Canadian customers keep being served throughout.
Should we build an in-house cloud team, hire a local consultancy, or use a senior offshore partner?
Build in-house if cloud is core to your product, you have steady large-scale work, and you can fund and wait out senior hiring in Toronto, Vancouver, or Montréal. A local consultancy fits when you need people on-site for enterprise or public-sector delivery and have the budget for an account-managed engagement. A senior offshore partner like us fits when you want senior ownership of architecture, migration, cost, and operations without the in-house hiring cost or enterprise overhead — with Eastern-time morning overlap, CAD billing, and you owning every account and IaC repo. We will tell you honestly when in-house is the better call.
Do you work Canadian hours, and who owns our AWS account and infrastructure?
We work to your Eastern-time schedule: our team joins your morning standups live, answers questions through your working day, and hands off completed work at your end of day so progress is waiting for you the next morning — the async cadence North American teams already run well. Everything runs in your own AWS account under your billing, and you own all infrastructure as code, configuration, and documentation. We build in your repositories and hand over full access, so your team or another partner could take over cleanly. There is no lock-in and no proprietary layer.
Can you take over and optimize an AWS estate another team set up?
Yes — a large share of our work is inheriting estates built by a previous contractor or an in-house team that has moved on. We start with a Well-Architected Review to map what exists, find the security, cost, and reliability gaps, and give you a prioritized remediation plan before changing anything. From there we can stabilize, optimize, and operate the estate, or fix it and hand it back to your team with clean documentation.
Make Your AWS Estate Work for Your Canadian Business
If you need a senior-led AWS partner with Eastern-time standups, ca-central-1 (Canada) data residency, CAD cost reporting, and PIPEDA-aware security — we are ready to talk. No junior handoffs, no ticket mills. Just considered cloud engineering for Canadian teams.
